Amor como um Enigma

O amor
permanece um enigma
para muitas pessoas
porque ele pode trazer infinita
alegria para uma pessoa
e um sofrimento devastador
para outra.

O amor
pode acender
instantaneamente
quente e intenso
como um incêncio
e então extinguir-se
num instante
deixando em seu rastro
um deserto de aflição
e luto.

O amor
pode confundir e sobrecarregar
aqueles que lutaram
e falharam nesse trio
clichê-
casamento
separação
divórcio

enquanto testemunham casais
que se apaixonaram jovens
e permaneceram apaixonados
devotados um ao outro
até a morte.

Outros, ainda, vivem sem
essas buscas e escolhem
a abstinência ascética
ou se acomodam com amizades

coloridas.


Love As An Enigma

Love
remains an enigma
to many people
because it can bring infinite
joy to one
and devastating misery
to another.

Love
can flare
instantaneously
hot and intense
as a wildfire
then burn itself out
in a flash
leaving in its wake
a wasteland of woe
and mourning.

Love
can puzzle and burden
those who’ve floundered
and failed in that clichéd
trifecta—
marriage
separation
divorce

while witnessing couples
who fell in love young
and remained in love
devoted to each other
until they died.

Still others do without
such quests and choose
ascetic abstinence
or settle with friendships

with benefits.
