And the days, unfortunately, alternate in shades of gray.
And how does the soul remain?

E assim percorremos os nervos e a memória do mundo
pelos outros.

We are what we were and what is left to us
from others.
We are where we are and what we do
with others.
We are what remains of us in the gaze we imprint
on others.

And so we move into the nerves and the memory of the world
by way of others.

esta noite
desenhei a beijos contornos do divino
como quem dá vida a novas ilhas
e baptiza territórios recém-conquistados

tonight
i traced the contours of the divine with kisses
like someone who gives life to new islands
and baptizes newly conquered territories

All I need is the unknown beyond the bend in the road, and the hope that you'll come with me.

So much sound, and nothing is heard.
So much light, and nothing is seen.
And then, everything goes dark.
Through small fractures, when the lightning-instant touches the world's empty womb: a body.
There is still life in the grooves of the veils that cover walls and people.
And screams are seen through a snowflake. Even with eyes completely closed..
A photograph.

Larvas

Numa campa numerada.

Larvae

How much is a life worth?
Of those who never made it in their mothers' wombs
Of those who died without ever living
Of those who were maimed on beaches like flying fish
By weapons of war hidden in the dunes
Of those who drowned in an icy sea
For trying to swim a dream of freedom
Salty and bitter
How much is a life worth?
What letters to spell in the genetic code?
What words to conjugate?
What grammar to use for the disabled, the forgotten, the stigmatized?
Of those who are just a mistake in the table
A poorly encoded message
A malformed amino acid sequence in the protein
How much is a life worth?
To all of you beings well translated in the polypeptide chain of the language of perfection
Finished and boring
To all of us creatures badly dreamed by the chain of nucleotides in someone's head
Sad and sulky
That in the end we are all ash and dust
In a numbered grave.

escuridão branca

ainda que meus olhos vejam,
nada posso enxergar.

qual é o cheiro do azul?
qual é o gosto do silêncio em Cage?
diga-me aqui
quais são as palavras-cachimbo Magritte?
quão áspera tornou-se a fotografia do pai?

mas não me diga nada.
Os olhos são vozes, também.

We know memories only through the eyes, so tell me then
what is the smell of blue?
what is the taste of silence in Cage?
tell me here
what are the pipe-words Magritte?
how rough has the father’s photograph become?

but don’t tell me anything.
Eyes are voices, too.

eu a vejo pelos cantos
a murmurar preces vazias
eu a vejo pelos cantos
a chorar mágoas suspeitas
a cada passo pela casa
as paredes são sujeitos
em cada passo dessa casa
a morte grita pelo avesso

de meu peito sangram vozes
a vazar pelos meus dedos
ela para frente à porta
seu olhar de desespero
uma sombra-gente morta
possuindo-me inteiro
fala pela minha boca
sua voz que cala os outros

I see her in the corners
whispering empty prayers
I see her in the corners
crying suspicious sorrows
every step through the house
the walls become subjects
in every step of this house
death screams from the reverse

from my chest, voices bleed
through my fingers, they spill
she stands before the door
her desperate gaze will
a shadow-people lying dead
possessing me in the whole
speaks through my empty head
her voice silences their sway

I was going out with someone
They closed their eyes and asked me to close mine
They took my hands in theirs and brought mine to their face
There was a smile
The most beautiful smile I ever knew

minha vontade é enroscar-me todo
meu corpo como uma concha
dessas que tu colocas no ouvido

you place in your ear
and feel the sound of the sea

The ashes touched his skin as if, by covering it, they could tell who he should be – or how he should be. I thought that each of those ash flakes falling from the ceiling was like names in the words' reality. Names cover the skin and create layers of meaning on the bodies of flesh.
