A sombra das curvas não tem cor.

Porquanto linear se esconde,
Na página deste livro,
No céu que a olha.

Na cor da luz,
A queda vertical do anjo.

The shadow of the curves has no colour;

The straight line hides itself on the page of this book,

in the sky that gazes upon it.

In the colour of the light,
the angel’s vertical fall.

— Não adianta, menina, isso é você. Aonde houver azul, você será pássaro.
— E quando não houver?
— Se você pintar, menina, sempre haverá.

— It’s no use, little girl, that’s who you are. Wherever there’s blue, you’ll be a bird.
— And when there isn’t?
— If you paint it, little girl, there always will be.

Só se, nesta terra fria,
ao teu lado tivesse rido do meu próprio ombro,
e ao teu lado
tivesse deixado aquelas balas azuis-feridas atravessarem-me,
então agora não estaria a perguntar-me

Oh pele esticada
na ponta da flor,
agora,
agora,
quanto de ti ainda está viva?

Only if, on this cold earth,
beside you I had laughed at my own shoulder,
and beside you
had let those bruised-blue bullets pass through me,
then now I would not be wondering
which tulip is where,
which burial is closer to me,
and behind which sharp edge of fire
at last
we too
would not have taken shape.

O drawn-tight skin
at the end of the flower,
now,
now,
how much of you is still alive?

envolver com braços, olhos, ouvidos,

ser casa para o outro entrar,

To embrace:

Eu também quero
chorar de um olho voltado para mim,
que é um espelho,
onde o solo semeado pelo poeta
regressa a si.

Neve que
não derrete.

Nesta bochecha, aprisionada,
está a perdiz da imaginação:
quero, à medida que derrete,
ver finalmente a sombra do caçador,
como ela fixa o meu esconderijo.
E como, através da ferida,
aponta para o vazio da planície.

Uma planície no espelho desta bochecha,
uma espécie urbana
cujo sotaque perdura
por onde quer que vá.

Para gritar,
a garganta está endurecida.
Deparo-me com a neve
e dou um salto curto.

I, too, want
to weep from an eye toward myself,
which is a mirror,
where the poet’s sown ground
returns to itself.

Snow that
will not melt.

On this cheek, trapped,
is the partridge of imagination:
I want, as it melts,
at last to see the hunter’s shadow,
how it stares at my hiddenness.
And how, through the wound,
it takes aim at the hollow of the plain.

A plain in the mirror of this cheek,
a city species
whose accent lingers
wherever it goes.

For calling out,
the throat is hard.
I come upon the snow
and leap short.

parecerem a mesma viagem
a carregar um deus distraído

e era difícil esquecer-me de ti
pelo voo do nós
imenso

estás, ficas, levas-me
comoves-me

plantares flores

i dress your skin and entered the sadness that came upon me suddenly
and recounted the silence you meant to express
not wanting

and it was easy to forget you
as your appearing and disappearing
seemed like the same journey
carrying a distracted god

and it was hard to forget you
because of the flight of the ‘we’
immense
hanging in the sky, slices of sun with poorly drawn little lines
like in the streets of childhood

you are here, you stay, you take me
you move me
by transcending the bounds of normality with which
you weave the difficult threads of life
in silence

as if it weren’t enough
to plant flowers

Clareza

Conforme a inclinação do sol.

Clarity

If I had to choose a color for your words, it would be gray.
Not because of the darkness of sadness. That darkness of yours is beautiful, you know?
It would be because of the calm. That’s it. Because of the calm you bring me on the shores of mornings or afternoons.
Depending on the sun’s angle.

Your words are only not white because I wouldn't discover them on this page.
But they are white, these embroideries of light that slip between your fingers.

Mar adentro

A procissão de fé segue mar adentro,
Lavando as pedras da alma,
Num espelho de introspecção.

Passos presos, miméticos,
Aceitam confiantes, a tempestade,
Bramindo a dúvida sobre o altar.

A mente, o corpo e espírito caminham,
Desumanizados na espuma dos dias,
Rumo à abissal origem da vida.

Out to sea

The procession of faith moves out to sea,
washing the stones of the soul
in a mirror of introspection.

Hesitant, mimetic steps

confidently accept the storm,

roaring doubt upon the altar.

Mind, body and spirit walk on,

dehumanised in the froth of days,

towards the abyssal origin of life.

A bolha ri
e pálpebras partidas estão presentes sob o sol.

Saltam,
escorregam,
deslizando de forma fragmentada
entre duas feridas:
a imagem imobilizada da
Solidão.

From the waiting
behind which I have praised the bird,
to a shadow afterward,
the city is hanging.

No one knows where it is
until, bending, it comes back upon the hands
and sees desire
sitting on silent strings of light,
gazing into a white bubble.

It is night.
Afraid, it does not die.
It sleeps on the string of lights and asks,
How do you burn inside?

The bubble laughs
and broken eyelids are present beneath the sun.

They leap,
they slip,
slipping brokenly
between two wounds:
the standing image of
Solitude.

Vigília n.º 3

Somos um princípio delicado.

Começamos sempre por tentativa-erro:
olhar, gesto, palavra.

Muitas vezes é a limitação
que nos obriga a inventar
uma forma
e uma linguagem própria
de dizer e de ver.

Talvez por isso,
quando o caminho se torna incerto,
o gesto mais seguro
seja regressar à origem.

Vigil No. 3

We are a delicate beginning.

We always begin through trial and error:
looking, gesture, word.

Often it is limitation that compels us
to invent a form
and a language of our own
for saying and for seeing.

Perhaps for that reason,
when the path becomes uncertain,
the safest gesture
is to return to the origin.

I fold the wave that wraps me —
that coastal sheet where your gestures meant for love
played out upon my body —
and in the silence’s breaking, I stretch the sea out wide
until undoing our salt-embroidered bed for good.
With broken eyes, I then lie down
