O nome do vento

Se os meus pés andarem,
que corram para quem me faz bem.

Se a brisa me tocar o rosto,
que me devolva o fôlego.
Que eu nunca me habitue

ao que me devolve a calma
sem fazer barulho.

The name of the wind

if my feet should wander,
may they run
to those who do me good.

If the breeze brushes my face,
may it give me back my breath.

May I never grow used
to what brings me back to calm
without making a sound.

Serão.

E enquanto a noite caía. Cigarras.
Tu debaixo da minha pele.
Preto. Dourado.
Ar quente.

Mil pessoas.
Tu.
Como se eu importasse.

Evening.

And as night fell. Cicadas.
You beneath my skin.
Black. Gold.
Hot air.

A thousand people.
You.
As if I mattered.

How do we count the days that blend into one another, giving us no time to truly exist?

Vigília n.º 3

Somos um princípio delicado.

Começamos sempre por tentativa-erro:
olhar, gesto, palavra.

Muitas vezes é a limitação
que nos obriga a inventar
uma forma
e uma linguagem própria
de dizer e de ver.

Talvez por isso,
quando o caminho se torna incerto,
o gesto mais seguro
seja regressar à origem.

Vigil No. 3

We are a delicate beginning.

We always begin through trial and error:
looking, gesture, word.

Often it is limitation that compels us
to invent a form
and a language of our own
for saying and for seeing.

Perhaps for that reason,
when the path becomes uncertain,
the safest gesture
is to return to the origin.

todos os dias têm poesia
uma linha que seja

quando não a vejo
fecho os olhos
para sentir o vento a dançar

every day has poetry
even one line

when I don't see it
I close my eyes
to feel the wind dancing

There was a time when almost all sound had vanished from the old house. The shutters were drawn to shield it from the afternoon sun. And the twilight came to the aid of the silence. A whispered word or an outside noise was then unable to penetrate that void; rather, it seemed to emphasise it. The maidenhair fern gently swayed its silhouettes against the wall. There was room for other senses to grow. Even thoughts took on a rounded form in a promising serenity.

É possível que o amor
aprecie suavidades,
como um silencioso
encostar das mãos.

It's possible that love
appreciates softness,
like the silent
touching of hands.

deixei palavras por dizer. talvez seja demasiado tarde para me iludir nos versos, ouvir-me sem neles reconhecer a minha voz. deixo palavras por dizer.

Há que se demorar em si mesmo,
pois somos uma longa coreografia.
Acontece que o bonito é vagaroso.
E a gente insiste na pressa.

We must linger within ourselves,
for we are a long choreography.
It turns out that beauty is slow.
And we insist on rushing.

Don’t speak of the certainties I pretend not to know. Keep to yourself the words that forbid us from dreaming and become entrenched in illusion. In those moments when, on the outside, we are what we are on the inside, only the infinity of a feeling should envelop us…

Escrevo estórias no pensamento.
Apago-as antes do ocaso
para que não fiquem pegadas,
nem caminhos para fantasmas.

I write stories in my mind,
Before sunset I erase them,
so that they leave no trace,
nor paths for ghosts.

Trepas-me pela coluna.
Movo-me com dificuldade, mas consigo afastar-me.

Morna.
Preciso de me alimentar.
Aproximo-me.

E zás! Vem contra mim um musgo húmido e peganhento.
Cola-se ao meu tronco.
Suja-me a pele.
Aperta-me o peito.
Cobre-me os olhos

És tu. Outra vez.

You climb up my spine.
I shake you with all my might and relieve the suffocating sensation.
I run away. I stomp slowly with my feet so you don't hear me.
I move with difficulty, but I manage to get away.
I look back. Nobody.
I try to resume my path.
I still carry some dry leaves clinging to my body, but, little by little, the wind helps to loosen them.

A clearing. Freedom. A ray of sunshine.
I close my eyes, I inhale.
Finally.

Red berries in the background. They are hanging from that branch and dance in the light breeze.
Warm.
I need to feed myself.
I approach.

And bam! A damp, sticky moss comes against me.
It clings to my torso.
It soils my skin.
It squeezes my chest.
It covers my eyes.

It's you. Again.
